Hongkong telegram unnumbered to Mission of June 20th,

repeated to you.

My telegram No.996 last sentence. Aircraft in question is

a civil type. Removal of machine gun fittings to which Madame

Chiang Kai-shek agrees would render it fully as innocuous as the

six D.H.Rapides recently allowed to be erected in Hongkong for

use as ambulance machines (please see Mission telegram No.35 to

Hongkong and Hongkong unnumbered telegram in reply of March 23rd

repeated to you from here).

In view of this and of the fact that aeroplane is personal

gift to Madame Chiang Kai-shek I hope His Majesty's Government

will feel able to treat this as an exceptional case and authorize

assembly in Hongkong.

Addressed to Foreign Office. Repeated to Mission and Hongkong.
